Bdiz: “I really do enjoy the more gank heavy metagame”

ESL-Radio: Hello Bdiz. Could you shortly introduce yourself to our readers?

Robert ‘Bdiz’ Tinnes: Hey guys, I’m Robert ‘Bdiz’ Tinnes, one of the support players on SK Gaming’s newly acquired HoN team.  We’ve been at the top of the HoN scene for quite a long time now formerly under the name Team fiVe, and have all been playing since the start of beta, almost a year ago.

ESL-Radio: Some time ago your team joined the organization SK-Gaming. How did this take place? Did their management just ask you, if you want to play for them?

Bdiz: Tim (Merusame) actually messaged me via PM on the GosuGamers website, after we had registered for the HoN $40k World Cup, however I didn’t see it until just a few days ago, after he got no response from us, I’m assuming he contacted Levent and Kebap from KD Gaming, as they gave us his contact info.  Tim expressed interest in sponsoring us, and SK Gaming is exactly the type of organization we were looking to be sponsored for.

ESL-Radio: Are you happy with SK and the management so far?

Bdiz: I’ve been talking several times a week, aswell as through e-mail with Tim for over a month now, and I’m extremely happy with not only him, but all of SK.  He’s a honest man, and extremely professional.  Any time we ever have a question, as silly as it may be, he’s right there to help out.  There’s really nothing bad I can say about SK Gaming, as Tim and the organization are truely a bunch of great people that we’re happy to now be apart of!

ESL-Radio: There are many tournaments to come in the near future. How much time do you spend in training?

Bdiz: We all play the game alot, whether we’re practicing as a team of 5, or playing with friends in inhouses or public games, we’re always training, racking up at least 6 games a day for the most part although it’s usually more.  If we don’t have our entire team online to find a scrim (or simply get avoided by lower teams that don’t want to lose) we’ll practice lane combinations with a teammate in either an inhouse or a public game, constantly trying out new strategies and seeing how they work.  We also try to improve every day on tiny aspects of the game, while minimizing our mistakes.  When we aren’t playing, we often talk amongst ourselves and ‘theorycraft’ the recent changes from patches to try and formulate new strategies to use.

ESL-Radio: How do you rate the current metagame? It seems to be more gank-oriented after the last few patches. Do you like that?

Bdiz: I’d rate it as a 9/10.  I really do enjoy a more gank heavy metagame, contrary to the popular belief that North American HoN teams can only succeed in a turtle heavy metagame.  It’s just more exciting to play in aswell as spectate.  It also opens you up to play more heroes that I feel are more fun to play, such as pyromancer!

ESL-Radio: What do you think about the development of the HoN-scene?

Bdiz: The competitive HoN scene has been growing extremely fast, and there’s been a lot of good players popping up and joining teams.  The amount of tournaments has been steadily increasing, and it’s actually quite difficult to remember all the different ones we have to schedule matches for every week :p.  However, HoN as an e-Sport is growing extremely quicking, especially considering it launched a mere two months ago.  I’d say most of this could be credited due to the support by S2 games.  Whether its balance issues, or patching content, or sponsoring tournaments, they’ve really stood behind the amazing product that they developed.

ESL-Radio: Can you say us something about the incidents around NEVA? Do you know why there are teams banned and will you participate at their tournament?

Bdiz: I’m personally glad that S2 severed it’s relationship with NEVA Digital, aswell as Vievi by banning all of his accounts from the forums.  I also think that this is as good of a place as any to state that we (SK Gaming.HoN) will not be attending the Neva Invitational, nor any future events hosted by Neva Digital due to their lack of respect for all of the teams that won qualifiers.

ESL-Radio: Who do you think is the best player in HoN at the moment? Which is the best team?

Bdiz: You can’t really name an overall best player in HoN, because there’s a lot of different roles that require you to do completely different things.  At the same time, all players (Carry, Ganker and Support) have their amazing games, aswell as poor games.  Overall though, I’d say that [SK]Testie is currently the best carry player in the game, however the best ganker is a toss up in my opinion between [MSI] Trixi and [KDe] H4nn1.  As far as the best support player, I really can’t say because it’s probably the toughest role to judge and you don’t know the true skill of a support player unless you hear their communication on vent.  As far as the best team in HoN, once again you can’t really name one.  All of the top four teams (KDe, MSI, LOAD, SK) are extremely even, and I’d even say DWi is really close aswell although it’s hard to judge how good they really are outside of LAN because Slickz is from Australia and plays with massive delay on both USE and EU servers.

ESL-Radio: Thank you very much for the interview. Is there anything left you want to say?

Bdiz: I’d like to give thanks to both SK Gaming and our Manager Tim (Merusame).  Also, shoutout to all of our fans, and the haters too!  Love you guys, lol.
