ClouD: “Zerg ist die Rasse mit dem meisten Potential.”
Carlo “ClouD” Giannaco recently qualified for the first Starcraft II Pro Series-Season during the 5th Qualifier. As one of the many terrans in the EPS he will try to qualify for the finals. In a short interview “Cloud” answers a few questions for ESL-Radio.
ESL-Radio.de: “Hi Cloud, first of all, could you please give the readers a brief introduction of yourself?”
ClouD: Hi, I’m Carlo from Italy and I am 23 years old. I was a SC:BW player before Starcraft II came out and right now I’m playing a lot to reach the top.
ESL-Radio.de: “Recently you qualified for the German EPS Season XVII. Congratulations. Were you surprised that you managed it on the first try and what is your impression of the German Starcraft II community so far?”
ClouD: It felt good to qualify at the first try, especially because there were only five spots left when I joined the qualifications. I was not too surprised, I practiced a lot for it and came up with new builds playing the Italian player “Beta” and in the end it wasn’t a tough run.
I’ve always liked the German community and Germany. I’m just too happy to move there to play the EPS. Italy doesn’t have anything that huge and the people in charge of the ESL here don’t seem to want to make the eSports grow.
ESL-Radio.de: “Many players were upset when it was announced NaNiwa and you would be qualifying for the EPS. How much of the uproar did you actually encounter and do you understand the concern of those people?”
ClouD: It wasn’t too big of a deal, some people were rude to me, but most of the German guys I’ve spoken to so far were very nice and supportive. I understand the fact that it might be upsetting for some people, especially those who had a chance to qualify, but weren’t at the level of the top players. I was given this chance and I just took it.
ESL-Radio.de: “NaNiwa, a mysterious third person and you will be moving to Germany to be able to compete here. How hard was the decision for you to take this step?”
ClouD: It was easy. I already refused to go play SC:BW in Korea in 2009 when they asked me right after Nony returned home and sometimes I regret that choice. This time it’s Germany, a country much better in every aspect than Italy and without these huge cultural and language barriers that scared me back then. I’ve always had in mind to move to Germany or Sweden and even if this particular experience could not last too long, I will definitely move to one of these two countries to live there the rest of my life in the future.
ESL-Radio.de: “So far a lot of Protoss and Terran players have qualified for this EPS Season and just one Zerg. Few players tend to say there are no balance issues, but just unknown potentials in Zerg. Others say Protoss and Terran are just way stronger due to balance issues. What is your take on this?”
ClouD: I don’t know about PvZ, but right now I feel liek Zerg is the race with the most potential. They just require a far amount of smartness and knowledge, but they are definitely not underpowered compared to Terran. I don’t see many people abusing their strenghts, like the Muta/Ling/Baneling-Combo, fast Ultras, Burrowed Banelings, infinite Nydus worms or Infestors. I think it’s just a matter of time, before Zerg will shine again in Europe,
ESL-Radio.de: “How is your PvT and TvT as next season will be full of it?”
ClouD: They are both in great shape. TvZ is the only match I’m having troubles with, so I could say luck was in my favor this time.
ESL-Radio.de: “Starcraft II was just release few weeks ago adn the community is growing day by day. Announced price pools seem to skyrocket. What are your goals for the next 2-3 years?”
ClouD: The goal is always to become a better player and win the biggest tournaments. The competition is fierce and a lot of players are practicing to be the best, so it will definitely be an interesting and challenging experience.
ESL-Radio.de: “Thank you for your times and this interview. The last words are yours, feel free to address whoever you like.”
Cloud: I’d like to thank MYM for the chance they’ve given me in Germany and my friends from www.starcraftworld.it for trying to make Italians aware of the awesome universe of Starcraft.
